Hostal Santa Marta

Really good value for money

Pros: Lovely hostal ...really funky decor. The owner and staff were very friendly. The bed was super comfy and the air-conditioning was good. If you want to cook your own food there is everything you could need to prepare it. Really nice outdoor space with fans.

Friendly, helpful owner. Everything that we needed for a one night stay before taking the boat to Nicaragua.

Pros: Marta who owned the hostal was really friendly and helpful. She suggested where we could eat and arranged a taxi for us in the morning. There was a communal area upstairs where you could make a drink and sit and chat.

Cons: My room was a single room. It was fine except that it only had a pipe for the water instead of a shower head.

A convenient place for the Nicaragua boat

Pros: Ideal for a one night stay before taking the boat to Nicaragua. The room we got was quite basic but had aircon which was much appreciated as it is very warm there. Only a short 5 minute walk to the main square and restaurants, and also 5 mins from the port to take the boat.

Cons: It’s a bit expensive for what you get, and there were a couple of cockroaches in the room which is never nice

Pros: Allow dogs. Room was spacious and very clean. Good and silent AC. They have a very well equipped kitchen. Staff is sooooo friendly and helpful. They let me store my luggage for free on the night I went to the volcano. Well located; safe neighbourhood. Great value for money. I would highly recommend this place, and would definitely stay there if I go back to La Union again.

Pros: The house was absolutely gorgeous, a museum of a property. Ana the owner was so incredibly helpful.

Good hostel near the Port for border crossing

Pros: Location close to the immigration office was great. Kitchen was well equipped. And room was spacious with air con which was definitely needed

Cons: It was quite hot in the areas communal and kitcehn areas as they were outside.

Pros: Quick stop over before the boat to Nicaragua. The staff were really friendly and let us store our bags the day before our reservation so we could camp up Conchagua. Very basic room but that's fine for the price, cold shower which was nice and refreshing.

Cons: Extra charge if you want to use the A/C

Pros: It's a good overnight stay before a boat trip to Nicaragua. The lady owner was very helpful. There you can copy your passport for 1 dollar per person for the border control.

Pros: The staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Simple comfortable accommodation for the nicaragua crossing.

Cons: The bed sheet had cat hair on top of it (I'm guessing a guest had allowed the cat in or the cat snuck in the room). We simply brushed it off and didn't say anything as we were so tired but just a small negative.
