Very good considering the price you pay

Pros: Nice staff, they also have their own tienda witch is useful. Nice Kitchen, fridge, comfortable bed, free towel and soap and a fan for each bed! Big lockers also. 5 minutes walk to the beach (5 more minutes on the beach and you’re in El Tunco)!

Cons: Only 1 bathroom so if someone is taking a shower it could be super long to go pee! Yes it’s not clean but you’re at the beach…bring earplugs because the main road is just next to the building

I enjoyed my stay at El Balsamo

Pros: The location away from town but still close to the beach was amazing. The staff were extremely nice.

Pros: Great. I arrived much later than expected because my border crossing was delayed a lot but I was able to get in and register the next day which was fantastic. The owner is super friendly, speaks English and gave me lots of information about my buses to Santa Ana. The room was large, bed was comfortable and each bed has its own fan which is really necessary with the heat. 15 minute walk to El Tunco

Just a cool place if you on the budget and don’t have high expectations

Great option for a beach stay

Pros: This was a great option for a hostel by the beach. We were traveling as a group of 3 and had a room to ourselves. The room had 2 beds and 1 bunk bed for a total of 4 beds with an AC unit that kept us cool and its own attached bathroom. There is a small kitchen at the property available for use, a small store to buy some snacks and drinks, and plenty of hammocks and chairs to lounge in. The WiFi worked great. There is some construction going on and some road noise, but it didn't take away from the nice atmosphere at the hostel. The hosts were helpful and friendly. The beach is a 5 minute walk up some public pathways and another 5-10 minute walk takes you to El Tunco.

Basic but has everything you need!

Cons: Shower is basic with no hot water (not needed in the heat though) Uber needed to main Tunco town which is cheap ($2-3) or half hour walk

Pros: The location was excellent for surfing, because it's very close to the point break. Just a 5 minute walk through the jungle.

Cons: Gecko poop on the inside and bird poop on the steps would accumulate rather quickly.
